I have spent hours building
this site. If it has helped you, please let me know, because this
helps to make my efforts worthwhile.

As you will see, I am selling a
GCSE Mathematics Revision CD. I am doing this because I have to raise revenue to keep the site going.
The CD costs £5 plus £1 p&p with a reduced rate for schools. Everything else on the site
will still be free. |

I hope that the
Brain-Cells site helps you with your
education and future career. The site is mainly maths, but on the
Education page, there are links to BTEC Skills for Working Life and career advice that tries to help you
prepare for leaving school and thinking about a first job. I leave you
to explore the rest of the site.
Kind Regards
David Smith
You will need PowerPoint to view the
presentations on the site and if you do not have this program, a free
viewer is available from the Microsoft site. Click on the link below

Making sensible
approximations is a really important life skill. Quite often, it is
not possible to obtain exact answers and knowing how to round off
numbers is important. The lesson has a starter based on 'Who Wants to
be Millionaire?' This is followed by an explanation of rounding to
decimal places and significant figures. The Plenary work covers
sensible approximations and a journey from Land's End to John O'Groats.
The diameter of the universe is 40 billion light years. Try it for
yourself and you will find it's only necessary to use
π
to 30 decimal places to calculate the circumference of the universe to
the nearest mm. The value of
π
has been calculated to 206 billion decimal places!
