Harry Carlton has been an excellent school. This
excellence has - in my opinion - been founded upon the guidance of good
head teachers and the dedicated work of ALL the school's staff.
I only met Mr Tyler - the
school's first head - once but I am told that he set the standards of good
behaviour at Harry Carlton when it was a brand new secondary modern school.
When Mr Tyler took early retirement, his deputy
Stan McCabe became the acting head for two years. Without doubt, Stan
established the positive ethos that has been such a crucial ingredient at
Harry Carlton.
One cannot help but mention the work of Mr
Anthony Armstrong - the school's second headteacher - in having the vision,
drive and personal charisma to turn a rural secondary modern school into one of the country's named top 200 state schools in 1991.
And I could
not speak highly enough of Rob Bailey - the school's third head. Rob guided
the school with the kindest and most understanding and astute leadership
that I have ever known and won awards for the school's CYA (Curriculum
Value Added).

Finally, I know that the present head - Mr
Graham Legg - constantly seeks to improve the school and has secured the
specialist status for the school that will benefit so many of the local
children,The following are photographs and documents
are my personal tribute to everyone that made the school such a wonderful
place.
Kind Regards to All
David Smith
